SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS

Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics is an orthodontic treatment indicated in the most severe cases that cannot be treated with braces alone. We work closely with a specialized oral surgeon for these patients to determine the best-customized treatment plan.

When is surgical orthodontics indicated?

Surgical orthodontics may be used when a patient is finished growing. For this reason, typically it is mostly indicated in adults. Usually, jaw growth is complete by age 16 in females and 18 in males. Surgical orthodontics is recommended when the jaws do not line up accurately, and a proper bite cannot be attained with braces or other appliances alone.

Will I need surgical orthodontics?

During your complimentary exam, Dr. Gilbertson, Dr. LeCornu, and Dr. Weber will tell you whether or not orthognathic surgery is necessary as part of your orthodontic treatment plan. Once we complete our records, photos, and x-rays as part of the exam, we will be able to accurately diagnose your case’s severity.

How does jaw surgery work?

If you require surgical orthodontics, we will provide a referral to a specialist. We will coordinate appointments for the best of care. Our team is here to answer all of your questions! The surgery will take place in a hospital. Orthognathic surgery can take several hours depending on your individual case. The surgeon and team will answer all of your questions regarding the procedure, recovery, and risks.

Why should I consider orthognathic surgery?

Like every patient seeking a beautiful, healthy smile, you deserve the best. Surgical orthodontics may be the solution to give you a confident smile you deserve!
